PirateBox

This page will go over the instructions on how to install piratebox onto router running the Open-Wrt firmware. This is a traditional setup and is the best option for a permanent solution. This option will generally have the strongest range and signal strength.

1. Wireless Router running Open-Wrt

2. USB flash drive (USB 3.0 Recommended)

3. Ethernet Cable

4. Computer with Ethernet port

1. Download the required software

• Piratebox https://piratebox.cc/openwrt:diy
• Openwrt from http://stable.openwrt.piratebox.de/auto if it is not already installed

2. Prepare USB Flash Drive

• Extract piratebox zip file and copy the “install” folder to the USB drive.

3. Set up the Router

• Set the router to “3G” mode by toggle switch if available
• Connect to the router by Ethernet cable and power it on.

4. Install piratebox

• On the computer open a webbrowser and log into your routers configuration page.
• Check your routers documentation to find the right address. It is usually 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.0.254
• Go to System Tools > Firmware Upgrade and select the OpenWRT firmware that you downloaded to your computer
• Select upgrade
• Wait 15-30 minutes for the firmware to finish updating
